Dureuil-Janthial
Dureuil-Janthial is among Rully's most respected domaines, producing whites and reds of uncommon precision across a range of premier cru sites. The wines are benchmarks for what the appellation can achieve.
History
Dureuil-Janthial is a family domaine based in Rully, in the southern reaches of the Côte Chalonnaise. The current generation is represented by Vincent Dureuil, who took over from his father Raymond and has been the driving force behind the domaine's rising reputation since the early 2000s. What was once a well-regarded but quietly regional producer has, under Vincent's direction, become a reference point not just for Rully but for the Côte Chalonnaise as a whole. The domaine has expanded its holdings over time and now farms both village and premier cru parcels across Rully, with occasional forays into neighboring appellations including Puligny-Montrachet.
Vineyards
The domaine's holdings are concentrated in Rully, where the soils shift between limestone-clay on the slopes and slightly heavier ground on the flatter sites. Premier cru parcels include Grésigny, La Fosse, Les Champs Cloux, Vauvry, Chapitre, and Maizières, each offering distinct expressions shaped by aspect and elevation. Grésigny includes old-vine material that contributes to wines of greater density and grip. The Puligny-Montrachet premier cru Les Grands Champs represents the domaine's reach into the Côte de Beaune. Specific farming certifications are not publicly documented in detail, though the domaine is broadly understood to work with care in the vineyard.
Winemaking
Vincent Dureuil works in a style that prizes freshness and definition over weight. The whites undergo barrel fermentation and aging, with oak used as a structural element rather than a flavoring one; the proportion of new oak is restrained, keeping the fruit and mineral character of individual sites legible. Elevage is unhurried. The reds, made from Pinot Noir, are handled with similar attention, producing wines that are supple but structured, and more serious than Rully rouge tends to get credit for. The village and premier cru whites are the domaine's calling card, consistently showing the kind of precision and site specificity more commonly associated with appellations further north.
